This late 50’s- early 60’s rare East-German art pottery by Johannes Andreas Urban show-cases a geometric engraved decor that, combined to its earth colors, is almost “folk” looking.
Johannes Andreas Urban is a post Bauhaus German potter from Friedrichroda, formerly East Germany.
He started his own pottery studio in the 50’s and continuously developed an unmistakable style in terms of shapes and decor.
Very little is known about him since nothing has been published yet about DDR potters, but he is surely considered by collectors as an important German artist.
